Passage East is a Village situated on a bank of the River Suir, about 7 miles (10 Km.) upriver from the entrance to Waterford Harbour. It was founded by the Vikings, around the 10th Century. Passage has seen the coming of many foreign invaders to Ireland, the Normans in 1169, and several English Kings over the centuries. They all found the village of Passage a convenient alighting place. The most notorious person ever to set foot in Passage was the infamous Oliver Cromwell, who is reputed to have said that he would land in Ireland,
